Stardust Hotel and Casino
An important part of Las Vegas history from 1958 to 2006, the 48 year-old Stardust Hotel and Casino was imploded on March 13, 2008. The last of the mobster controlled casinos, under Frank"Lefty" Rosenthal the resort embodied mobster mentality of skimming, and scamming and thuggery. Rosenthal was the first to operate a sports book from within a casino and the first to allow female blackjack dealers. Other firsts were, home to one of the first Las Vegas topless reviews, the famous Lido De Paris; first home of magicians Siegfried and Roy; and the Las Vegas Strip's first mass-market casino-hotel. Owned by the Boyd Gaming Corp in recent years, it was imploded to make way for Boyd's new $4.4 billion megaresort Echelon.(Contributed by SharonMc, 11-9-2009)
